Plastic repair from Auto Master

Auto plastic repair is a great alternative to buying damaged plastic parts for your car.

Plastic recovery methods

In total, there are several popular ways to extend the life of plastic interior parts. Many people prefer to turn to specialized services, where the restoration of the appearance of plastic is entrusted to professionals. However, if you wish, you can do a lot with your own hands. There are three main ways to restore an attractive appearance to plastic parts:
- application of special paint;
- constriction with skin or its substitute;
- pasting with a film;
- grinding with heating.

What are the severity levels of the damage?

- small - scratches and abrasions; they are easiest to remove with light polishing or heat treatment;
- deep - the consequences of constant interaction with the surface; for repairs, it is necessary to apply a primer to the damage, sand and cover with paint and varnish;
- fading - under the sun's rays, plastic loses color and strength; for sealing, a primer, seals are used, sometimes it is easier to wrap the part again with a film, leather or leatherette;
- chemical - a rather rare type, such damage appears after interaction with whiteness or an aggressive cleaning agent.

Auto repair includes:

- bumper;
- plastic radiator;
- headlight housing;
- plastic pads;
- body of mirrors

The process itself consists of several stages:

- exposure to high temperature;
- gluing;
- straightening details;
- putty;
- grinding of details;
- priming parts;
- painting;
- application of lacquer coating.

Plastic repair includes several stages:

1. Dismantling the part. It is required in almost all situations (restoration of bumpers, moldings, panels, and other various plastic parts).
2. Disassembly. A mandatory step, especially when a part that consists of several parts or a part that is a load-bearing element is to be repaired. The part is “bare” as much as possible, thus protecting adjacent parts from possible damage during repair.
3. Diagnosis of damage. Before the start of repair work, the part is cleaned of contamination, after which the damage site is carefully inspected. Small cracks (microcracks) are often marked with a marker (felt-tip pen).
4. Preparation for repair. Thorough cleaning of the surface of the part to be repaired from various organic contaminants, drying, degreasing. All places where there are damages are carefully sanded.
5. Selection of repair materials. Only at first glance it may seem that all plastic parts are the same in composition, but in reality this is far from the case. In addition to the fact that there are a huge number of varieties of plastic itself, different manufacturers use a wide range of related additives. As a result, there is a rich variety of plastics in structure, in the production process, special technologies make it possible to give the plastic a special shape, plasticity or strength. It is extremely important to choose the right material, eliminating the possibility of "rejection" or subsequent deformation of the parts.
6. Repair parts. Missing elements are restored. Large fragments are attached to their original place and fixed there. Small parts are first laid out with a mosaic on adhesive tape, after which they are also attached to their places. The shape of the broken pieces that are lost is often recreated with putties, or “patches” are attached. During repair, parts can be subjected to temperature effects (heat, cool), glue, solder, weld, use other technologies, taking into account which part is being repaired, the depth and nature of the damage. All irregularities (dents) are additionally puttied, primed and carefully sanded to make the surface of the repaired part even and smooth.
7. Painting, drying. This stage is not necessary in all cases, but it is often required. To get a good result, you need to properly prepare the surface. Equally important is the choice of enamel, especially when the repaired part must be installed in a conspicuous place. Ideally, when painting is carried out in a specialized spray booth.

What is the turnaround time for repairs?

The time varies from 1 hour to 1 day, depending on the individual case and the complexity of the work. We can determine the exact time after the diagnosis.

Why is it worth repairing and not replacing?

Saving time. Damage can be repaired in a couple of hours.
Saving money. Repair is much cheaper than buying new parts.
Exclusively local repair. Work only with the damaged area - straightening dents, welding cracks, repairing scratches. Maintaining appearance.
Modern technologies allow you to restore the original appearance of the part and choose the exact color for its painting.
