Brake disks are a key element of your car's safety, as they are what ensure effective stopping. Worn or damaged discs can significantly reduce braking power. At our workshop, we perform professional brake disk replacement in compliance with all technical standards.
When brake discs need to be replaced
1. grinding noise
2. the car has a long braking distance
3. the amount of brake fluid is reduced
4. pedal down
How brake disks are replaced
1 Remove all wheels
2 We inspect all elements of the braking system: brake disks, pads, calipers, etc. to understand which parts need to be replaced
3 Dismantling the calipers
4 Removing the brake disks
5 Clean or replace disks
6 Put all four wheels in place, tighten the nuts with a torque wrench
7 Conduct a short test drive to make sure everything is done correctly
The frequency of brake disc replacement depends on several factors:
The make and model of the car.
How carefully the driver handles the vehicle. If you enjoy rapid acceleration, sudden braking, taking corners without slowing down, or driving at generally high speeds — that’s not necessarily bad. It just means that the lifespan of your braking system may be shorter. You can avoid premature wear by getting regular vehicle diagnostics.
The condition of the roads you drive on.
There are both visible and hidden signs that indicate your brake discs and pads might need to be replaced:
Long stopping distance — the car doesn’t stop immediately when you press the brake pedal but continues to move and slows down in jerks.
The car pulls to one side — this could mean wear or imbalance in the braking system.
The brake pedal sinks too easily when pressed.
Brake fluid level drops quickly.
Vibration in the steering wheel or brake pedal.
Sharp noise or even grinding sounds — any unusual noise should get your attention. Brake pads often have a wear indicator that starts to squeak — this is a warning signal that it’s time to inspect or replace components. If ignored, the pads could wear down completely.
Cracks on the brake disc rotor.
Tires, brake discs, and pads on the same axle should always be replaced together. This helps ensure balanced braking across all wheels — which is critical for emergency braking or fast starts. Sometimes, one side wears faster due to rust or contamination.
You should always replace brake pads when you replace the discs. The most common and noticeable sign that it’s time to replace them is a metallic squeal — meaning the brake pad’s friction material has worn too thin. Many cars also have electronic sensors to monitor pad thickness.
You might also spot the need for replacement by noticing a grooved surface on the disc. At our service center, our mechanics use a caliper depth gauge to measure this. Most manufacturers recommend replacing the disc when it’s worn down by 1–1.5 mm below the minimum thickness — especially important for ventilated discs with thin walls. Specific guidelines can also be found in the manufacturer’s manual.
Some car owners, after watching DIY videos, think they can replace brake discs themselves. In theory, it’s possible. But can you truly guarantee your own safety after a DIY replacement?
