Is flushing a car radiator difficult? It all depends on the specific situation, the make and model of your car, your available time, and the necessary consumables. It’s best to entrust this work to the professionals at our service center, who will perform all necessary procedures quickly and efficiently.

Radiator flushing, which is very affordable at our service center, is not a particularly complex procedure, but it nevertheless requires skill and special attention. What is the purpose of a radiator in a car? Its main function is to reduce the temperature of the powertrain by moving coolant through the circuit.

Coolant is a mixture of demineralized water and an anti-static agent. The typical ratio of these components is 1:1. Over time, coolant loses its antifreeze and anticorrosive properties.

To prevent damage to the cooling system and powertrain, experts recommend periodic (at least every 2-3 years) radiator maintenance, both inside and out. Flushing the radiator from the outside removes dirt, dust, and insects, while flushing the inside removes rust and old antifreeze residue.

Flushing the heater core can also be performed unscheduled if suspicious behavior occurs:

• water spots under the vehicle;
• excessively high coolant temperature during normal engine operation;
• engine misfiring; and so on.

Flushing a Radiator Without Removing It – Basic Steps

Before cleaning the radiator, thoroughly clean the engine compartment with liquid detergent to remove any grease deposits that might interfere with a thorough inspection. A degreaser is ideal for this purpose, as it dissolves sludge and stubborn dirt deposits, allowing them to be easily removed with a cloth.

As part of cleaning the car’s radiator, the intake and outlet pipes, as well as those leading to the expansion tank and engine, are inspected for leaks and secure connections. Using a soft-bristled brush, remove large dirt deposits from the radiator grille, dust, and insect debris.

Before draining the radiator, several preparatory steps must be completed. Raise the car onto a safe, stationary lift (such as a jack, pit, or ramp), and place a large container under the engine.

After the engine has cooled, remove the expansion tank cap and the lower drain plug on the bleed valve. This will allow all the coolant to drain into a designated container. If the drain plug is missing, disconnect the lower coolant hose by loosening the retaining clip and removing it from the hose where it is located.

After all the coolant has drained from the radiator, close the lower cap and tighten the bleed valves. Then, pour demineralized water into the expansion tank to fill the cooling system.

Close the expansion tank cap and start the engine for a few minutes. After stopping the engine and waiting for it to cool, repeat the previous steps, and drain all the water used to flush the radiator into a container.

Cleaning the Radiator with Chemicals

If the flush water is very dirty, the heater core flush can be repeated without removing it. Special chemicals can be added to the flush water to remove stubborn scale deposits.

These chemicals are dangerous and corrosive, so if you plan to use them, it’s best to have them done by a professional mechanic. If you’re doing it yourself, remember to take precautions to protect yourself from contact with such substances.

Radiator Flushing – Affordable

The final step in cleaning a car’s radiator is refilling the cooling system. Check your vehicle’s operating instructions and owner’s manual, as each vehicle requires a different antifreeze. Using the wrong chemicals can cause serious engine damage.
