Car Air Conditioning Refill

Car air conditioning has long ceased to be a luxury item and is now an integral part of the interior of almost any passenger car. These systems are easy to operate and maintain. For their proper operation, only occasional refilling is necessary.

What types of air conditioners are there?

All car air conditioners can be roughly divided into three categories:

• Manual temperature control – the driver sets the temperature of the air supplied by the air conditioner using a toggle switch or dial (these systems are installed in older car models);
• Automatic climate control – the driver sets the desired interior temperature, and the air conditioner control software automatically maintains the desired microclimate (these systems are installed in most modern cars);
• A combined system that allows both manual and automated temperature control. How does a car air conditioner work?

A car air conditioner works on the same principle as any refrigerator: after the air conditioner is recharged, freon (refrigerant) begins to circulate through a closed system, absorbing heat from the air in the cabin and releasing it into the atmosphere.

How often does a car air conditioner need to be recharged?

Recharging a car air conditioner is an essential part of maintaining the interior microclimate. Freon gradually evaporates during operation of the air conditioning system, even if the system is completely sealed and all components are functioning properly. Under standard operating conditions, the normal refrigerant loss over twelve months is approximately 15%. Therefore, a fully functional air conditioning system should be recharged with freon every three years.

However, experience shows that refrigerant leakage is one of the most common causes of air conditioner failure. In such cases, the air conditioner should be recharged with freon immediately after repair.
